Sedona, Arizona

This past week Samantha and I found ourselves on a road trip over to Arizona. Our final destination was to be Memew and Papaw's house.

This is my excited, road trip face!

Shhhh....

Knowing that we were not in a huge rush, it afforded us this privilege to leave our house later in the day and travel at a slower pace.

Having planned to just drive about 6 hours, and then spend the night in a hotel was a luxury that we rarely have on this trip. Because we had already planned to spend the night Samantha used Priceline to find a $180.00 dollar hotel for about $60.00 at a quant little hotel called "Little America" in the very scenic and mountainous town of Flagstaff, AZ.

The outside of this hotel looks very much like a hunting/ski lodge. The layout of the hotel is spread out over a few acres, broken up into sections. There is the main section that holds a gift shop, restaurant and the main loby, and then there are the hotel rooms.

If you have ever been on the campus of a Bible college they look very much like dorm housing. (Lodge A, Lodge B ect).

This hotel has a twist on the old fashioned metal keys. Look closely, these keys actually have a computer chip built into the part where the key should have been cut out.
So when we got to our room we were expecting the lodge type atmosphere to continue. But were were surprised. It was decorated in a sort of 1950's victorian.

Later that night I looked up on Google maps, the Highway to Sedona and found that we were really close. I had always heard that it was a beautiful drive, and figured this trip would be a great time to see it.

After we got checked in to our hotel we went out to eat, and found this neat car/hotrod//schoolbus.

After seeing it I had this overwhelming desire to yell...Yabadabadoo!!

An important part of taking road trips is to seize the opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Samantha and I like placing tracts in the hands of people along the way. When there isn't people to pass them out to, we like placing them in locations where we know someone will find them!

At one truck stop we found along the way, had a pretty neat chapel.   They offer services to the truckers. I dont know a whole lot about their ministry, but I think that its great that there is someone who is reaching out to the truckers.

The next day, we hung out in Flagstaff for bit and then headed down to Phoenix. After running some errands we finally arrived at Grandma and Grandpas house. We were very excited to see them both as well as "uncle Jeff". We were greeted with hugs and a great dinner. ---There is just something about Memew's cooking...YUM!

Of Course no trip to Phoenix would be complete without a "quick" stop at Cabela's

No, these are not shelves of vitamins they are shelves bullets.

Uncle Jeff, on "his" boat!

After a few days of visting it was time to head home. We set out on our journey to see the majestic red rocks of Sedona.

This is what we found. Keep in mind the pictures dont really do it justice.

Did You Feel It? 3.8 Earthquake!

We just had a 3.8 Earthquake at our house! So far no dammage reported. It was very noticeable. It felt like something shook our house four about 4-5 seconds!

Read the story below!

http://www.kob.com/article/stories/S2332229.shtml?cat=500

The U.S. Geological Survey is confirming that an earthquake happened at 10:38 a.m. Monday in Northern New Mexico.
The center of the 3.8 magnitude earthquake was 11miles north of Santa Fe, two miles west of Chupadero, four miles southeast of Cuyamungue and 62 miles northeast of Albuquerque.

We talked to a geophysics professor from New Mexico Tech in Socorro who told us the quake was felt for about ten seconds, was very noticeable and was probably felt by thousands of people.
Aftershocks are possible over the next few days, he said.

Picnic In Rain!!

One of the things that has been on our to-do list, is driving up the mountains to see the aspen leaves as they change color from spring to fall. We had been admiring them from our home, and had really wanted to go see them up close.

In addition to driving up to see the leaves change, we have always wanted to hike up a trail and find a little spot tucked away in the trees and have a little picnic

I think in both of our imaginations we pictured a beautiful sunny day, with a gentle breeze as birds chirped in the background, however... The only day we had available turned out to be a rainy day.

Some might think, "aww its raining, lets not go" but for Samantha and I, we just took this as another chance to make some wonderful memories. So with our picnic basket in hand and our rain jackets on we headed out.

The drive up the hill was filled with colors ranging from deep greens to bright yellows.

A long time ago I had hiked up this mountain and remembered that there was a parking spot with a nice easy trail that we could walk for just a few minutes and easily be at a nice picnic area. The picture below is the trail head.

It didn't take long for us to find a cute little spot where we set up our picnic. It was perfect, because it was right under a couple of big pine trees that helped block most of the rain. (Don't worry there was no lightning.)

 Let the picnic begin!!!

 LOOK HOW CUTE!
Samantha did a great job!

This was out little picnic spot!

On the ride down, is when you could really see the colors!

After the picnic we decided to stop by Starbucks for some coffee to warm up!

This was a lot of fun!
